Yep. I found an '84 gauge locally for cheap, swapped the internals, and mounted on the '82 faceplate. The only trouble is, its about 2mm larger than the '82 causing a slight gap in the housing... and who knows if it's accurate (as long as the rpm scale is the same as the '84...?). Either way, it's a temporary solution until the rebuild this winter.

Ya, its an easy enough swap... the splicing just takes some patience and small fingers are an asset.
