84 zn700 cluster lights was created by Blodge45
Bought an old zn700 this winter and just finished getting her on the road, trying to educate myself on what the idiot lights on the cluster mean, since there are no labels. I have a service manual, but it seems to only have wiring diagrams and doesn't really specify which light is which.

Looking online I've been able to track down some picture of similar clusters, but even in those the labels are non existent or impossible to read:

I've been able to figure out the the obvious ones like turn signals and the neutral indicator, but does anyone have a clear idea on what the rest of lights/labels are? Thanks!

The owner's manual probably has a description of the indicator lights; It can sometimes be hidden in a compartment under the seat or maybe in the backrest compartment or somewhere.

From a ZN700 meter assy on eebbaayy: ZN700

L. Turn --- Neutral --- High beam --- R. Turn
(blank) --- -- Oil --- --- Head lamp --- Stand (Side stand warning light ?)

not mine & not much help, just a pretty bike..

Fantastic! Thank you martin. The bike didn't have the owners manual with it when I bought it, so all I had to work with was the service manual.

owners manual. I guess you checked thoroughly under the seat & tail and in the backrest compartment?

STAND light. [strike]I didn't see a side stand switch in the diagrams.[/strike] It's in the Ign-switch/lock/reflectors diagram. doh.

ps: I've got a couple of more pics of that bike. I think I saw it on eebbaayy last year or the year before. very nice example.

Correct. The backrest compartment only had a few old gaskets and screws in it, and I've torn the back end apart enough over the last few months to feel fairly confident no manual is hiding back there anywhere :p

The "Stand" light is what was concerning me. It likes to blink on around corners and certain RPMs, so I'm glad to find out it's not my oil pressure going crazy or anything like that.

I'm kinda curious. Does the bike start with the side stand down? just wondering if the side stand switch is a lockout switch or just serves as a warning that the side stand is down. Something is probably loose or maybe bent or the spring is worn or something. or the switch is defective. but you probably already know that. hee.

She'll start on both the side and center stands, so no lockout. Sometimes she won't fire up unless the clutch is about 3/4 depressed, but that's another problem for another thread I think.

The clutch switch is a starter lockout switch, so you should have to pull in the clutch lever to start the bike. It's kind of a safety feature in case the start button is depressed while the bike is in gear --- without the switch, the bike could lurch forward & fall over or something.
