My starter solenoid went our on me this week. I didnt want to wait a few days for a new one so I figured I would pull the solenoid off my mower and see what happened. Hooked it up and so far it is working great. Anyone else tried something like this and had any success? I am just hoping this will be a long term fix and hopefully it wont burn out

I have heard of people doing that before with fine results. Just make sure it's a 12V solenoid.

All starter Solenoids are just a high current relay. A low current connection from a switch energizes a high amperage path from the battery to the Starter. As long as the switched voltage is the same and the amperage rating is equal or higher, you should be fine.

It's all about your presentation to the family CFO for an expenditure of funds.

Option 1: Honey,.. I need to buy a part for my motorcycle so I can go ride this weekend. DISAPPROVED, Resubmit in 30 days!
Option 2. Honey,.. I need to buy a part for the mower so I can cut the grass this weekend. APPROVED, and buy some line for the string trimmer while you're there.

I always go to NAPA and buy a solenoid for lawn mover.
Last time I didn't because I had 2 new Chinese Honda solenoids, so I installed one of them on my Vulcan 1500.
Second one will probably end up in my KZ.
