Turn Signal Woes.... was created by Tmiron
My turn Signals are coming on, but not flashing.
A little Background: I recently put new turn signals on my 1978 KZ400. Because they were lower voltage bulbs I changed my Turn Signal Relay from the original Thermal one to a new Electric relay. Everything worked great for a a few rides. The other night I noticed that my gauge lights that illuminate the speedometer and tachometer were not coming on and neither was my tail light (unless I hit the brakes). When I got home I checked the fuse box and noticed my 10 amp "Tail" fuse was blown. No big deal, I popped another bus fuse in and the gage and tail lights worked again. The next ride I noticed that my turn signal were on solid and wouldn't flash. The relay isn't clicking and there is no change when I use the turn signal switch. I double checked all new connections and fuses and everything seems to be fine.
Ideas?

3 reasons:
1 bulb doesn't work
1 bulb has lower power
flasher is bad.
Switch hazard and turn flashers to check.

Common symptom of low battery voltage. The flashers won't cycle if the battery is low.
I never had turn signals until I was able to turn off my headlight.

I'm thinking it must be a ground or low voltage on the battery...
All lights are on, so there isn't a bulb out. They remain on if I remove the relay as well. If I remember correctly, without the relay the right side comes on when you flip the switch, but doesn't flash.
Also, I've had to kick start the bike since the battery won't crank her fast enough

I think I'm going to run some jumper cables from my car to see if I can get the turn signals to work before buying a new battery

If you do that DO NOT HAVE THE CAR ENGINE RUNNING! That can damage your bike's electrical system. If the car engine is turned off you should not have a problem. Ed
