Starter button fail was created by Sardonicus
I have a 76 kz750 and my starter button seems to be failsauce. Everything else works so I have pretty confidently narrowed it down to this button. The button itself along with its spring seem fine it's the electrical connection the button is suppose to actuate that isn't working. Is that something replaceable? Not even sure I saw it on the diagrams. I want to keep the stock look and can probably find a momentary button from digikey or something I was just curious to know if an actual replacement can be bought.

Could just be a dead spider in there.
Here is the button itself at Z1 Enterprises.
See if it looks like yours.

I took it apart and cleaned things up. That is the right button but I think it is what that button contacts with that is somehow bad.

Is your kill switch on, have you jumped the solenoid?

Kill switch is off and I have jumped the solenoid - thankfully the starter turns.

The button won't work if the switch is off and some bikes have a clutch interlock. Some won't start if the kick stand isn't up. Do you have a manual?

That's what I meant. The kill switch is in the run position. I have a digital shop manual but not an owners manual.

It's not your fault. Those features were made for people that are too stupid to ride anyway. IMO I'd bypass them. More to go wrong.

Ha! That is my plan. the ride it - I'll probably not mess with much. Right now I am waiting on an ignition coil to make it run and then I need to finish up the work on the master cylinders. I'd be surprised if this bike has seen any road time in several decades. I am hopeful to have it on the road just in time for the warm weather to set in.

Mine sat under a tree from 98 to 12 when I started cleaning her up. Mo money but enough for supplies and rattle can paint. When I got all my hard parts the heavy lifting was already done. Bolt and GO. :woohoo:

Nice - the paint on mine is actually in pretty good shape. A few rust spots here and there on the frame but nothing serious. The gas tank and what not are all in good condition. I may repaint it when everything is in working order and I can play around with cosmetics. Sadly the side fairings were missing when this bike came to me but I think I might be able to ebay them.
