82 GPz750 battery warning light
19 Oct 2015 04:04
My battery warning light was blinking most of the way to work. The volt meter reads 12-14v idle to speed with smooth running assy all revs. It seems like the light is blinking some sort of pattern then will stop. I don't have the manual with me and I no longer have a center stand so I can't check my battery water levels until I get it home and on a paddock stand. Is there anything else I should look for besides loose connections and shorts?

The battery warning light tells you that the electrolyte level is low.
When replacing the battery it's common to put a fuse ans connect it to +

Thanks, I was thinking that was the primary purpose of the light but since I don't have my FSM I wanted to double check. I'm also going to trace my wires to see if there is anything that might be getting wet. I went on a short ride yesterday evening and got sprinkled on. Also got a little wet this morning. Since it doesn't have the fairing and a smaller headlight bucket I might be getting a little moisture on some wires.

If it's a cable fault. It is probably the wire running to the battery, they tend to take a bit of beating over the years

No new batteries have that electrolyte level sensor, so you can just as well remove the circuit to the sensor.
Just take the pink cable that runs to the sensor, put a fuse holder and a lowest amp fuse you have laying around and connect it to + I strongly recommend a fuse as you otherwise might toast your cluster :S . Leave the sensor in its place with the cable removed.
When done and the warning light will not bother you again, you next battery will probably be a gel bat anyway.

It actually does have the sensor. It supposedly was installed within a year of me buying it. I'll check the levels when I get home.
The next battery will probably be gel or Li-Ion.
