Insturment cluster interchangability? was created by Scrapvalue
Could anyone help me out on which instrument clusters would be the same as the 1981 CSR1000?
My bike has a set of after market gauges and I would really like to take it back to stock.
And if anyone has a set they would be willing to part with, I would be willing to possibly purchase them.
Here is a picture of what is on there now.

From the diagrams at partzilla for the 1981 KZ1000-M1 CSR, the speedo & tach seem to be unique to the 1000-M1/M2 models. However, most if not all of the other stuff is the same as the 750M/K (Twin), 750H Ltd & 650H CSR. I'd guess you could use the meters from one of those models, but the red line on the tachometer might be wrong & the warning/indicator lamps may be different. The meter bracket & covers are the same, so the meters should physically interchange. The speedo spins at the same rate on all of them & the tachometers probably spin the same as well.

PS: the 81-82 1000-K Ltd is very similar to the 1000-CSR, but the meter assy is completely different. The Ltd K has electronic meters & the speedo uses a different speedo drive case at the front wheel.

Most of these instruments can be interchanged, as above the speedo ratio is the same, but going from cable tachometer to electronic is just taking -ve off one of the coils to feed the black? wire trigger to the tacho.

Going from electronic to cable driven instruments is a problem involves changing the tacho inside the case.

You may likely need to reconfigure the block connectors if swapping between models. Check the wiring diagrams.

The main thing I am concerned with is that they have the mounting plate and that is fits the stock holes and that they are cable driven.
Figuring the wiring may be somewhat of a pain in the butt, but doable.

The models I listed have the same meter bracket & just about everything else is the same as well ---- meter covers, dampers, pilot box stuff, etc. You can compare the parts yourself at Kawasaki.com or partzilla. The meters from other 80s models can probably be used, but the ones I mentioned should definitely fit since the other meter stuff is the same.

The 1000-CSR has a fuel gauge in the tachometer. Here's a nice one.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationCorrection, one is used and the other is NOS. Problem is they don't go over 85 mph. Also the bolts are in the 3 and 9:00 position. On the Z1/KZ' they are at 4/10:00. The good sellers have it so there is a slide show where you can see what they look like. Maybe earlier or later years.
