Speedo Bounce was created by ffltstn
On my '82 KZ1000 with electrical gauges At times , and it seems like after i get on it hard, the Speedo will bounce around some. maybe about =/- 5 mph for a few secs. Anyone seen this issue? Is it in the gauge, the wiring, the pickup at the wheel? It's not a major issue but it may be some day so hoping to fix it now.
Thanks,
Ken

I have had that problem and it turned out to be a bad ground. After I cleaned the ground cable and wires the bounce was gone.

Ok thanks I'll check into that. I need to replace a bulb in that gauge anyway.

I replaced my bulbs with LED's. You can't buy ones that last anymore.

Steve, where did you find led bulbs for the gages? Are they also the same bulbs for the neutral light etc...?

I got mine on eBay. I bought the $5 ones just to see how they worked. They are all the same so 10 for $5 free shipping was a good deal. One came apart as I was putting it in. They asked if I'm satisfied and could I leave good feed back. I told them about the bulb so they sent me two more. I gave good feed back with what happened. They're still working but I would buy the more expensive ones and will if these fail. Brighter than the old ones, draw less power and should last a good long time.

I had good luck with products from Superbrightleds.com (Think that's right)

No affiliation, but their selection was pretty huge, and you can select narrow/wide angle in the small P type instrument lights. I think you pay a little more than with some of the direct from China importers, but it might be worth it. Other more common bulbs like the 1157's for turn signals give you an even broader range by way of number of LEDs per, color, angle etc...

I swapped out all the old bubs on my bike with LED to take a little bit of load off the charging system. I run a DYNA, and have never had any problem with keeping a battery charged, but taking even a little bit of load off seems like a good idea.

Cheers,
Jon

That's what I'm doing. I have a volt meter. With the head light off, I'm at 14v. Head light on 13v but while running it will creep up to 14. Head light and running lights, a lot, it goes down to 11 and creeps back up eventually. I also have a Dyna S and 3 ohm coils.

These LED bulb will replace both bulbs in both gauges? I have had them apart and they are different voltage but i think they are the same actual size.

Yup.
It's the same type for all 4 of the bulbs in your instrument cluster. I didn't check what the voltage on that circuit was, but it shouldn't make a difference. I don't recall precisely what was written on the bulbs, as it's been a while since I installed them, but they are rated for something like 9-14V. So, in any case they accept a bit of a range in voltage.

I imagine those 4LED bulbs will be good. I bought the cheapy singles, but I can attest that even they made a pretty big difference. Originally, I could hardly see the lights on the central cluster on a bright day. Now when I turn the bike on, it is perfectly clear that I am in neutral etc.... The bulbs in the speed and tach also made a world of difference, especially considering they light indirectly, having a brighter bulb in there makes seeing them at night a breeze, where before I could sometimes barely read them between street lights. Drawing a wee bit less power is just an added bonus after that.

Cheers,
Jon

Just a quick FYI for anyone who was interested.

Got some email from superbrightleds today. They are running a bit of a sale it seems. Use the code DAD15 at checkout for 15% off your purchase should you choose to make one. I almost wish I needed some bulbs now, but such is not the case.
