1977 KZ650, switch to stock CDI?

Hello all, I had a buddy send me a stock KZ1000 igniter, advancer and pickups. The whole thing is there, but the backing plate and advancer are slightly different sizes. Can this be used on a KZ650? And even better should it? If it can is there a good wiring write up somewhere? I am not having point problems or ignition problems of any kind. Would like to not have point maintenance but not willing to "experiment". What say ye?

You know the old saying --If it ain't broke don't fix it.You can look up
part numbers to see if they match up. Here's the link

My initial gut reaction is that it probably won't work --- the timing advancer's advance curve would be wrong for the 650 & the pulsing coil plate probably won't fit. I believe loudhvx said the pickups are interchangeable, so I think they can be used on a 650 plate.

PS: I don't think the Kawasaki electronic ignition is a CDI. not sure.

I'd go Dyna S instead.

You are correct. CDI's are found on dirt bikes, not KZ's.

I think Rstnick put a 1000 system onto a 650. But I'm not sure if he used the 650 advancer or the 1000. He just cut down the timing plate (he has those crazy locksmith skills).

You would need the 2.3 ohm coils, though, too. The points coils won't really work well with the Kz electronic system.
