You cannot hook the brown or blue wires for the brake light switch to the taillight and get it to work.

If the harness is in really bad shape, you might as well unwrap the harness. I would start at the blue wire from the rear brake light switch and follow it. You should end up at a splice in the main harness. One direction will go toward the front to the front brake light switch the other will head toward the tail light area.

My suggestion to you is to get a service manual if you don't have one already or at least a wiring diagram, and study it. If you really are doing a bare bones harness, unwrap the harness and strip out what wires you aren't using and fix what you are using said manual or diagram.

Later, Doug

The blue site only goes like 6 inches to the rear brake switch. No front switch on the bike.
I do have a few manuals. Iv been looking at them but wasn't 100% on some things. Iv thought about making a new harness but not trying to get into that right now. It's summer I want to ride it! Winter I'll get around to it.

I found a video that explains what each wire is for the tail light I have. As follows. Green is earth or ground, yellow is normal light, and brown is the brake light. I know mfolks posted a lot of good info but forgive my ignorance. I'm terrible with wiring. I can find the wires I need all day long but which ones do I splice where???

I'm guessing red from bike harness to yellow on the light, blue from bike brake switch to brown on light, and black/ yellow from bike harness to green on light. Sound right? What about the brown wire on the brake switch? Where does that go?
