Does the key switch actually carry all the current or is there a relay that switches the current?

For the starter, i is the solenoid relay that the battery cables are atteched to. For the rest of the loom feeding all the other circuits it all goes through the ignition switch.

I had a problem just here on my 750, traced to a dodgy ignition switch...the lock was fine, but on the switch underneath it was something crazy like 300 Ohms resistance. Get a meter and check your resistance or try 'hot wiring' the block connector that goes to the switch.

If you look at the wiring loom there is a box diagram showing the ignition switch connections.
