I have recently had this really weird random issue getting my bike to start. Sometimes she fires right up without any issue at all, and other times the starter solenoid just clicks. Usually when it just clicks I can hold the starter button down and wait and it will finally turn over, or put the bike in gear, rock it back and forth a bit then it will start up right up.

Here is a video if you listen closely you can hear the click. (The first 30 seconds is just me admiring the bike feel free to skip to the 30sec mark.)

I have tried three different batteries all tested in brand new condition, no change.
The starter motor was replaced with a new old stock one last winter, had it tested, it is fine.
Tried three different starter solenoids, two OEM ones, one aftermarket, each one worked fine, but no change to the way the bike starts.

I am really scratching my head on this one.

Whip it like a mule!

Hmmmm accept some loose wiring you might have missed... have you tried cleaning the starter button or bypassed the clutch engaged, lock out switch?
Pull the handle bar controls apart and wash out the contacts with De-Oxit, My horn didn't work for quite a while or was crazy anemic.... then I shot the control with De-Oxit and it works and sounds like new.
Actually I did both left and right control assemblies like this and they all work like new again.

The factory soldered connections in the left and right handlebar switches, left a lot to be desired even when new. Put many years on the bike, along with all the vibrations they encountered, and now the soldered joints may be failing.

Do a careful inspection of these electrical connections, and if you find failing or failed ones, just ask, as I've got a repair procedure......
