Dyna-S Ignition drawing too much power?? KZ650

I currently have a 79 KZ650-C3, with everything else is stock as far as the electrical besides the Dyna-S ignition system. Currently, my problem is that it doesn't seem to be charging the bike enough to keep the voltage up. I noticed that when the headlight is off, and the bike is on, it charges normally around 13-13.5 volts. But, with the lights on, and the bike running, it drops to 12.7-12.8 volts and slowly drops about 0.01 volts per 15-20 seconds. What could I do to remedy this? Is there a different stator setup that I could use? Anyway I could regulate the voltage higher? Thanks!

Should be 14-14.5 volts. Charge the battery then disconnect it. Leave it over night. If it loses power, it's the battery.

Not sure what stator you have on your bike, but there are ALOT of threads on here were people are having same issue using Dyna S on a single-phase stator. Some have upgraded to 3-phase system with better results.

Sounds like a stator or voltage regulator problem .

Typical problem, I went through the same thing. Chances are everything is working just fine. The dayna ingintion charges the coils longer than points do every time they discharge. The current draw is all the single phase charging system can handle. Some people can get by and others can't. It depends on your riding habits wether or not you can keep a charge in the battery. I found some used parts and put the stator and regulator from a 750 in my bike. Solved the problem.

gbot9000 posted the link to my fix above.

If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.
