Ignition stuck in full on position! was created by Zachism96
I have a 1979 kz 1000 shaft. I have been working on it for a while now and I pushed the key downs bs turned it over. I have done it a few times. Then the last time I did it, it won't turn back. What should I do? It is just locked up and I took the key slot off now but it is still locked in the on position. I freed the handle bars but not the ignition.

You'll have to take it off to get to the switch. It has the fork lock built in? The linkage might be broken or the switch block may be coming apart. It is only swedged from the back and can be tightened by recrimping the tabs.

Had this on mine, had to change the ignition lock with a used one, which had jammed like yours.
Best to remove the lock by the two m6 bolts underneath, get some plus gas penetrating oil spray or similar and spray it on the steering lock and in the oil holes and it should free up.
Go careful. those keys bend easily. Damaged keys can be cut to code using the 4 digit number.

Sometimes the locks are damaged by someone trying to take the bike. Steering locks are notorious for being weak and the thieves know it. I have a pad lock on mine. They can still take it but it will slow them down and be seen doing it.
Might have dodged a bullet.

So the best thing to do is just get a new one probably? I mean I have tried and tried and it won't budge. I got the forks to unlock but the key switch isent.

You'll have to open it up and might be able to fix it. I don't care for the integrated locks because they can fail at the worst times. Might be better to do away with it and come up with something better.
Just my opinion.
