Stator Wire New Grommet Reinstall
04 Mar 2015 19:55
Have someone change one of this lately?
If so how did you go about reinstalling the three wires through the new grommet?

I've never replaced the stator or the grommet, but you'll probably have to cut the wires &
feed them thru the little grommet holes. If a tight fit, use silicone spray. Then depending
upon what's appropriate for your bike, either splice the wires back together, or re-crimp some
new terminals (the 77 A & 79 B are different). I would get new w open barrel type terminals
& crimp w an open barrel crimper --- the crimps are very strong & the same as stock.

Martin.....
splicing not a problem....jacket on wire slips backwards ( on the wire ) as i try to push it through the grommet.
some how i need to keep the jacket from slipping.

Spdygon. I just posted my fix for the grommet. Is that a new stator you have there? How long are the wires?

I would try silicone spray --- spray it on the grommet & wires and twist/spin the wires while pushing them thru the grommet holes.

Clean the wire and jacket with carb spray then use crazy glue to keep it from sliding. It will seal the jacket and keep it from sliding.

alrighty....after hours of trying to insert the wires without any progress....finally found a way.
figured i needed some kind of sleeve....this is what i came up with.
took the end of a bullet connector and open the tip and used it as a sleeve.
was able to do all three in about 10min.

 Wouldn't the application of silicone spray prevent a bond/seal from forming when installing the grommet in the cover?

The holes in the grommets are supposed to be tight. It is slightly taller so when compressed, it will squeeze down and form a seal. It's best for it to be clean so it can bond to the insulators. With heat and time, it will be bonded to the plastic and woven material.
Question; Was it easy to pull the wires out of the old grommet? No? That's why.
Relaxing the holes will only make the bond weaker.

When I replaced my stator, the grommet was already installed on the wires.

I had to carefully cut mine off. The grommets weren't available back in the day. I tried everything to seal the old ones. People would look at my foot and know I rode a bike. That's how I came up with crazy glue. It sealed the woven part but still had a small leak.
