So, I thought I would take the KZ1000 for a little ride today. I went out, unplugged the battery tender, rolled her out of the garage. Put my gear on, hoped on and stuck the key in the ignition. Turned her on and NOTHING, No lights, no horn, no start! I think she is jealous of the Connie...

Got a multimeter? You'll need one to see where the power is and isn't. I'd replace all of the fuses. I believe yours are AGX in size, with 10,15,and maybe 20 amp ratings. AGX might be available at auto parts stores or boating supply places.

That could be, but my own experiences on older KZs probably one of three things. Blown main fuse most likely, shortly followed by dead battery. I've actually found using a battery tender causes many a dead battery, and they can be fine then the second current flows as in turning on the key, short out to zero volts. Last thing I've seen is melted wire connections on the ignition switch from bad contacts in the switch. All these KZ650 or older KZ1000, not sure 1982 they may have improved electrics for all I know on them new models.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Check to assure both connections, at the battery, are tight. I found the ground at the battery, on my 650, was just slightly loose and it took me almost forever to find this simple problem... well, a few hours.

Also, got 12+vdc at the battery? Break out the meter...

Also check the fluid in your battery , some tenders that do not automatically turn off when battery is fully charged will cause the battery to heat up, & make your fluid evaporate
ask me how I know :(
that's why I invested in a CTECH charger (smart charger)

The fact i is DEAD means (unless the battery is 0 volts-which never really happens) then your problem is probably the main fuse blown. If not then check the B+ to fusebox wiring connector, then fusebox to ignition switch block connector.

IIRC all fuses are powered by the main fuse on a z1000, goes from main fuse to ignition switch and back to power the other fuses. It is easy to blow a main fuse when working around the battery area, nothing to worry about.

Check your fuses with a meter. The glass tube fuses can look fine but have the filament disconnected at an end cap. This can happen even when there is no electrical problem; usually from old age or vibration. Ed

I appreciate all the suggestions! I haven't had any time to do a thing with the 1,000. (Work and the Connie take up most of my time) But this weekend I will take some time to try to get her running again. As far as the battery, it's a 2 year old AGM battery and it reads 12.9 volts across the terminals.
