As known, the objective is to set each carb fuel level to spec, not higher than spec, and not lower than spec.

Assuring that the fuel levels are within spec will rule out too high fuel levels as being the reason why brand new spark plugs are quickly soot-fouling.

It's not a good idea to set fuel levels below spec in order to achieve leaner running.

Good Fortune! :)

the way i set them is by having the carbs vertical and having the floaters line even with the line of the case in the moment the needle closes. i saw about the clear tube adjustment yesterday but never done it like that before.

If needed, to access a free downloadable KZ750 4-cyl service manual, use this link, and scroll down to "The Bible."
mbsween.bike-night.com/kz750l3/index.html

Here are some excerpts regarding the clear tube test, which is used to determine the so-called "service fuel level."

The dry-measurement for setting float heights is unreliable toward achieving the correct fuel level.
The clear tube test is reliable, because it visibly shows the actual true fuel level inside the carb bowl.

Once you get the fuel level fixed, don't forget to sync the carbs if you haven't already. Mercury carb sticks are best for this, not vacuum gauges. Bikes will run like crap if their carbs are out of synch. Doesn't really sound like the issue you are having though since you mention lack of detonation but still, good to do.

alright.. so all float levels seem fine, carb #4 is actually a mm or 2 too low (even though thats a rich running one). i noticed though that there is another liquid inside the bowls in the 1st carb and a little in the 2nd. maybe water? i assume whatever is is is collecting in the 1st and 2nd carb because of the position when its parked.

i will now install smaller jets.

No centerstand? Is the bike parked uncovered? I'd also check the gas tank for rust, especially if that's water showing in the tube.

yeah its not covered. it could be from rain getting in the carbs or maybe even getting into the tank. i don't think the tank is completely sealed at the opening. also, i don't use air filters right now. i forgot all 4 of them in another town where i got the head rebuilt 1 month ago. but all that is just from one day. i had the carbs open yesterday and cleaned them and noticed a brownish layer on the floaters in those 2 carbs. and also some of that liquid still in the bowl. but im sure thats not my issue with the spark plugs.

Your pictures shows no air filtration on the carbs. If you are trying to run the engine like that you will have problems. KZ carbs need air filtration and the associated air flow resistance. If there is no air filtration; before fiddling with jetting install filtration, otherwise you will be fighting a losing battle. Ed
