used pickup coil vs dyna was created by joe*
This is kind of a parts question. What are the advantages of an old, used oem pickup coil versus a new replacement dyna part. I ask because the ebay used pickup coils are going for over 75% of the dyna model.

With the Dyna, you will have to also get new coils.

With the used pickups, if you save the old one, you'll have a spare. You can swap just the individual pickups, even if the wires are the wrong colors. Black swaps with yellow. Blue swaps with red.

Stock system is more efficient. Can use the old coils. Won't overheat the coils if you accidentally leave the ignition on. Igniter can be made for $50.

Dyna is newer and the company has a good reputation for service.

I think I follow you. You're saying when I get the symptoms of power loss from the bad pick-ups, its likely that only one of the pick-ups is bad. When I stress test the bad pickups (with heat) the ohm readings are very close, how do I tell which is the bad pickup? Just start swapping ?

Do you know which cylinders stop firing?

As long as the rotor is in the original orientation, and the wring is stock:
The blue-black pickup fires 1 and 4.
The red-yellow picup fires 2 and 3.

Usually when you heat the pickups, one will turn into an open circuit. Infinite ohms. That's the bad one.
You may need a combination of heat and vibration to show the bad one.

How did you rule out the igniter? If it goes bad, the symptoms can be the same as a bad pickup.
If itis the igniter, like I said, you can make one cheap. There's a link in my signature in case you need it.
