1980 KZ750E Ignition switch/key elimination.
22 Dec 2013 15:56
Hello all. After a great deal of searching and reading wiring diagrams I need to ask a question.
I want to eliminate the ignition switch/key and install a hidden switch somewhere. Can someone shed some light on how I could go about doing this? I'm still usiing the stock handlebar controls (engine kill switch, start button, etc.) I just want to eliminate the key portion. I've seen people mount switches on the headlight buckets, under the seat, etc.
Thanks in advance for the info.
Sam

Has no one installed any sort of toggle to replace an ignition switch?

It's not like the old days when the ignition was binary (ON / OFF) switch for one circuit. If you take a look at the switch on your bike I think you will find numerous wires attached to it, so trying to use a simple ON / OFF toggle (as I did on my old BSA) is not as straight forward as it might first appear. you'll probably need to use several switches,(4 if possible, with some center off positions, to confuse someone trying to hot wire your bike). I'd suggest going to
www.watekwire.com
or
www.delcity.net
and look at their marine, or water resistant switches.

Here's a site w a manual & wiring diagrams.
mbsween.bike-night KZ750L3 page
Scroll down & click "The Bible" link.
Not really applicable to your 750-E1, but some of the wiring diagrams are mislabeled in the links.

ive done this with my bike in the end it is easier to make a new harness as all you need are a couple wires mine is kickstart only so im down to basic ignition module, stator rectifier, brakelight wires and hibeam wire and groundwire
