If your original spark plug caps do not fit properly on your spark plugs you are using the wrong spark plugs. The caps will fit properly on the correct spark plugs. Using the wrong spark plugs can cause other, more serious problems. What spark plugs are you trying to use? Ed

Lou hit it right on the nose..... B)

COILS:
Are they cracked, plug wires real stiff, plug caps cracked/brittle etc...
If you need to splice in a new wire set, then no way you'll get the same results (current path) thus spark to plugs... Just not going to happen...

To add to this, what do they ohm out on the primary & secondaries...?
If out of speck or even close to outer ranges, junk them for just not worth it....

If engine is running, backside of finger on coil after warmed up, can you touch the coil or is it warm or extremely hot to touch...? if real hot, junk them....

As for electronic pick ups, hell I've had mine on now going on 7 years, not one issue....

Bottom line, ignition and drive chains, you go cheap, oh yeah you'll be stranded one day pissed off at your self for not biting the bullet and being too cheap....

Just saying....

bossdawg, you are just like my niece in law. She and my nephew asked my opinion about buying a house and I told them to stay renting while they save up their hard-earned cash, as did everyone else. What did they do the very next day? Sign a contract on a townhouse that now, in addition to buying house, they were basically spending all the money they spent on rent to go for association fees and well... You have heard good advice from everyone here that have told you the way to go and still you order points. What did you bother asking our advice for if you already had your mind made up to go with PITA points? :S

Bought a Dyna S and coils in 1983 and never had a problem till 2004. One of the pickups burnt out then, can't remember but there is a good chance I did this myself by pulling the plug wires and spinning it over while checking comp ?? All I remember is it happened in my shed and not on a ride.

But Anyway after a couple years of messing with points again ( and the bike sitting before the rebuild) I bought a second Dyna, wires and new coils. like the old saying goes its So nice setting it and forgetting it and if I get another 20+ years how can you beat that. ;)

am i able to put new wires on the old coils?
--- probably not, because the stock coils are fitted with permanently affixed plug wires.

Actually, there are aftermarket plug wire "splicers" available which permit attachment of new plug wires onto the stub ends of old plug wires from old original coils.

However, the "splicers" are expensive enough to instead consider replacing the coils with new coils that allow independent plug wire replacements (as they should have been in the first place, imo.).

In any event, stock spark plugs NGKB8ES have serrated tip connectors that fit the stock KZ900 plug caps just fine, as Maw Kaw and GOD intended.

Good Fortune! :)

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationGood info there, Patton.
So I have received my Dyna S and I'm thinking about going with these coils here, except my Z2 frame allows a 4" coils, and not 3.5":

So, are those 4 ohm coils good enough, or should I go with 3 ohm Dyna coils?
