1980 kz440 sparks, but won't start was created by Nnichols
Hey guys,

I haven't ridden my 1980 kz440 LTD in a few weeks, went to start it and it wouldn't turn over. Charged the battery and load tested it, and results were good. When I go to start it, the starter motor spins but the engine won't turn over. I took the plugs out and grounded them against the heads and both plugs sparked. I did a resistance test on the primary coil and got a resistance of 4 ohms. I can't get a resistance measurement across the secondary coil however. Will the plugs still spark even though I can't get a resistance across the secondary coil? Or should I assume the coil is good, since I have spark, and associate the issue with a starter clutch problem?

Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

Did you mean the engine would not fire?

Compression, FUEL, spark is what is needed for an engine to fire/run.

Have you tried bump (push) starting your bike to see if you can get the engine to run? Ed
