Speedo/Tach repair 82 kz1100ltd

The speedo and tach for my bike are in relatively good condition,just some touch-up paint and clean the glass face an they'll be fine--- one problem, looks like some small bugs made a colony in the front of the speedo housing. Do I really have to bend that chrome ring back to separate the housing?
Are there any good replacement electric instrument clusters I can replace the whole setup with (that doesn't cost $500 like dakota digital stuff does)
