So I have both a kawasaki and Haynes manual and while they tell you how to take these apart, it's not clear to me exactly what's supposed to move and where I'm supposed to put lubrication. Is the middle portion supposed to rotate inside the rotor portion? Where do I lube?
The bike is an 82 kz750 Ltd.

Regardless of the rotor type (points style is pictured), lube the weight arm pivots.
Stock ignition has a slightly pointed rotor. Dyna-S has a round rotor.
Should be able to lube the pivots by accessing through the timing window.
Stock rotor
Dyna-S rotor
Good Fortune!

Your timing advancer should be very similar to the one on my 81 650-CSR, so you should be able to separate the rotor from the advancer body. It takes a little dexterity, but just twist the rotor then pull it off. There should be a groove - if so, the manual says to fill it w grease. Lube whatever moves.

when I pulled the cam off and put the new dyna magnet cam or whatever you call it on I put some grease on it then slid it on. Did I lube the wrong part?

Isn't the Dyna rotor one piece w no moving parts? I don't think it needs lubrication. not sure, though.
