i looked on ebay and i find rectifier regulaters....but the bike has a regulater already.

This summer I replaced the rectifier on my 1977 KZ650-C1. The KZ650-C1 uses the same rectifier as the KZ650-B1 because it has the same charging system with separate regulator. I bought the rectifier online at www.oregonmotorcycleparts.com/rectifiers3p.html ; the model the B1 and C1 take is R255a-KZ650 (look about halfway down the page in the link). It was a direct replacement for the stock rectifier and it works great. The price is right and I am happy with it. Ed

will a rectifier from a kz650-400 work on the 750 twin?
is there a way to do away with the regulator and rectifier and have jus one module to control everything? because i have no wiring anymore other than headlight/taillight/Alt to battery/coils

Sorry, my mistake! I thought it was a '77 650-B. (I really need to buy better glasses  ) I suggest you contact www.oregonmotorcycleparts.com/rectifiers3p.html , I'm sure they can give you the correct rectifier model number to order. I found them very pleasant to work with. Ed

Earlier models have a separate rectifier and a separate regulator.

Later models combined both rectifier and regulator into a single component.

Z1 Enterprises lists an aftermarket replacement combo unit for models having the two separate stock components.

Z1E's combo unit on my '76 LTD has performed flawlessly for many years. :cheer:

Good Fortune! :)

The 1976 KZ750B1 and 1977 KZ750B2 twins use a charging system unlike any other KZ's. They use a 3-phase excited-field alternator with a solid-state regulator. The regulator controls the negative side of the field coil.

The 1977 KZ650 and the early KZ400 twins use a 3-phase, excited-field alternator with a mechanical regulator. The regulator controls the positive side of the field coil.

The rectifiers for all of those bikes are very functionally similar, and should be swappable as long as they are physically compatible.

The 76/77 KZ750 twin can use a 77KZ650 or KZ400 regulator, but the polarity of the wiring will have to be changed. The brown wire on the field coil provides 12v to the field coil.

To perform the change, the brown wire going to the field coil will have to be cut. The end going to the harness will get taped up since it is live 12v. The end connected to the field coil will have to be connected to a good ground wire.

Once this is done, any aftermarket regulator for a 77 KZ650 or early KZ400 will work.

OregonMotorcycleParts may, in fact, already have a regulator compatible with the 76/77 KZ750 twins, so I'd check there first.

Any heavy-duty, 35-amp, 3-phase rectifier should work. There are plenty on ebay for next to nothing.
