Dyna 2000 Help
09 Oct 2012 01:46
Gday
Hope you guys can help
I bought a dyna 2000 for my 76 kz900 from z1 ent. The bike runs standard carbs (airbox and K&N filter) and has Vance and hines exhaust. I have also replaced the coils with grey 2.2 Ohm dynas. The install went pretty straight forward but have a few questions on timing before i kick it over or hit the starter more like. The dyna manual says for static timing 35 - 40 degrees is best, so i set both sides to 35 degrees does this sound right? I am a little confused on the pre loaded advanced curves should this be set to curve 4 for 2 valve stock ? So if i read the instructions correctly  this will be equate to 10 degrees advance.
Is this right? should i set static timing to 40 degrees to achieve 15 degrees advance

thanks for any assistance Jason

I'd try the #4 curve. Sock Initial timing would be 10 degrees not 15. Hopefully you won't get any detonation at 15. This curve would be the best choice for street use and your setup I think.

I just read through the directions and LIKE this system. Might have to replace the Dyna S!

kz's r set at 40*. so set yours at 40* total and u will have (25* less at idle) 15* advance at idle . (40-25). use curve 4 for stock compresion motors.
hope this helps.

FWIW, per FSM, the stock timing advancer (Frame No. Z1F-32818~) is 20° B.T.D.C. @ 1,450 ± 100 rpm,
which advances to 40° B.T.D.C. @ 2,350 ± 100 rpm.
Earlier models are 5° B.T.D.C. @ 1,500 ± 100 rpm,
which advances to 40° B.T.D.C. @ 3,000 ± 100 rpm.
Good Fortune!
