Not that I have one,mine is just wires coming off of it. But why is the wires coming off of the igniter going to the coils called a 6-pin connector when it looks as there are only 4 wires?

Don't know, maybe a Typo? 2 plugs 4 wires each in the diagrams.

Ok I tested my igniter as per manual and her is what I got.
From top to Bottom:
No Reading or Infinity
No Reading (and there should be one)
700 ohms
710 ohms
And as for the section just below for the male connector for pickup coils are those reading supposed to be 25-45k and 20-40k as stated in the manual because I was not getting those readings. There was another test the checked the pick-up coils and they were only supposed to read at 360-540 ohms and mine were with in spec. see insert below.

One says the male end and the other says the female end going to the pick-up coils. The only end that goes to the pick-up coils is the Male end. The Female connection goes to the igniter. :S

The difference is one is measuring through the circuit in the ignitor, the other is actually measuring the coils themselves. hence the Male, and Female of the connector. Didn't you sat yours has no connectors, just wires? So The Reading through the ignitor is the Female Connector which would plug into the Male end which comes up from the Pick up coils.

Looks to me the Ignitor is open at the trigger circuit.

How do these get messed up? It was working fine before I switched out a coil.

Since it is a frankenZ, I would look at the part # on that Ignitor Box. Then find which bike it fits, double check all the resistance values that should be used with it. The pick up coils resistance and the Ignition Coil primary resistance. It would be wise to check this, then if you find that there are parts miss-matched, correct that, then replace the faulty part, or maybe go with member Loudhvx's HEI Mod. That uses two GM HEI distributor modules.

Ok, I'll look into that. I know that the igniter looks to be original to the 1980 Kz1000 ltd but the motor (pick-up coils) look original to the J motor. I'm sure the coils are pretty much all the same or from what I have seen on feebay the part numbers are usually the same for most models/years.

What is the best way to search this site? I put in "Loudhvx's HEI Mod" and either get nothing or get who knows how many pages of stuff. Can't this damn search engine actually find anything?
