Dyna III or Dnya S? was created by mtbspeedfreak
I currently have a Dyna S with the green 3.0 ohm Dyna coils to match. I bought a project bike a few months back that came with two Dyna III boxes - my question is if I should switch out my Dyna S for a Dyna III? I know Dyna S's draw more current than Dyna IIIs, but I don't know how much. Any other benefits or drawbacks?

Thanks,
Mark

stick with the dyna S the III is older technology and are subject to shorting out. Dyna no longer makes or repairs them so if it goes bad you end up with another Dyna S

I sent my Dyna III that came on my bike to have repaired they called me a few days later and sold me the dyna S for 75.00 bucks and at the time told me the advantages of the newer Ignition but I cant remember them now and the fact they couldn't repair my older one it was a no brainer

same thing happened to me with a dyna 2000, it shorted out or something, they told me to send it back so they could check it, they did & said it was bad, & way past warranty, but they offered me the same deal, they sent me a new dyna 2000 for $100.00 no problems since !!...so are the Dyna S better than the Dyna 2000, ??

Not too many people run Dyna 2000s around here, unless they've built up a serious engine.

This is a Dyna 2000: www.dynaonline.com/skins/products/sportbikes/dyna_2000/ , as you can see, it has a control box to set the timing as well as a rev limiter.

when I bought it, I wanted the top of the line, for the set up I had, I got it for around $365.00 for the Dyna 2000, the coils, & the wires, ...sounded like a good deal , so I went with it....I dont race at the track....but I love to blow away all the new Harleys with my 32 year old bike    ...Pete

Dyna S works the same as the Dyna III. The only difference is that most of the driver electronics are in the separate box (away from heat and vibration), whereas the Dyna S is self-contained.

There is no benefit of one over the other in terms of electrical effiency or dwell.
