I have been doing quite a bit of searching on cafe part sites for tail lights but I haven't found the perfect one yet.

Does anyone have experience with a tail light with integrated signals? I want to slim out my bike as much as possible, and huge yellow lights off the sides doesnt look the best. I found some newer KZ tail lights (like 2006 tail lights), has anyone had success putting those onto a 1976 KZ400?

Yep. I used a 2004 Ducati light. It has brake, taillight and blinkers all in one. As a matter if fact it also has a plate light if you mount the plate under the light like I did.

You need the module to make them work properly and a tail light with 2 bulbs.

I picked up the same unit as Gwolever, only with the smoked lens. It kinda looks like there's been some mods to his frame or seat, though?

I was thinking about just ditching the rear fender and mounting the light to the underseat fender bracket. Or using a 70's 400 fender, with the flare tip and two mounting holes.

Any chance we could see some pics of your ride from a little further out for some perspective Gwolever?

You're right. That seat is for an 81-82 1000 LTD. My CSR never had a tail section, just a rear fender. I thought the fender stuck out too far so I cut it, pulled it back a little more, and mounted it.

Not me because they are illegal according to the Fed's requirement for motorcycle tail lights, ie specification from NHTSA. Note rear turn signals must be a minimum of 9 inches apart. See attached:

B) Might have been Bountyhunter who saved me some grief by posting that info on another thread. :)

I grabbed one of those tail-tidy things, it's basically a couple of slotted strips of metal with tiny ears for signals. Used a couple of mini signals that are vaguely arrow shaped. I'm not sure if any of the lights are DOT approved, but they're bright as hell and I figure if some old granny can't see over her steering wheel enough to notice two arrows pointing the direction I'm going, then I'm doomed anyway.

Cool looking bike Gwolever, looks like it's ready to pounce even on the stand. Must be a lot of fun. B)
