I have a 1982 KZ1000 LTD.

A couple of months back i had a similar problem. The main fuse for ignition kept blowing - the big bugger....30 amps or something.

From memory, I just went through all the connections and found that there was some serious corrosion appearing in the various connectors. I also ensured all my earths were good, but generally, just made sure all connectors were clean. If you trace all the wires and they are all making good contact, then it must start. I even pulled the ignition switch wiring apart and did that.

I never took the ground wire out at all. I will be going to Wal mart and buy multi meter and start working on it all day. I removed one of spark plugs and lay it against the engine case and kickstart but getting no spark. My bike doesnt have starter since last owner made it kickstart only. If I have a spark, it will run for sure! So frustrating. I will keep you guys updated tonight. Thanks guys for your help. I really appreciate it!

Great. I agree wholeheartedly with everything that's been advised so far. You just had to do that one test to make sure what direction to go. Sounds like you have a "custom" bike so there are a lot of variables here that we won't know about so we will rely on your observations. We don't know your skill level, being methodical and compartmentalizing your effort will save a lot of time and frustration so bear with it.
Answer a few quick questions for me:
So, the fuse no longer blows now that you corrected the mis-wire at the RUN/STOP switch, right?
What harnesses are missing?
Was the harness you purchased new or was it an original (used, I mean) and possibly ratted up? Be honest, we don't care, we just want to see you riding your bike.
What kind of ignition system do you have? On the right side of your engine there is a round cover that's held on by two screws. Remove that cover and tell us what you see (or take pictures).

Verify the health of your harness as Peter suggested.
With the tank off and everything hooked up and the ignition switch on, the RUN/STOP switch in the RUN position, use your meter to find the voltage at the small wire on the coil.

Think of this as an opportunity to learn!

Who knew multi meter will save my time? WOW! I found one wire that isnt connected right. Now I found other harness that is belonged to it but I have no idea where it is going to. Just that one wire. Heres some pictures to clarify. Pictures tell you better than my words.









Any idea where is #2 should go? Can I remove #1 wire and rewire from #2 to #2 but where is it going to? What about "?" wire? FYI I dont have starter

On the kawasaki's, any wire that's BLACK with a Yellow stripe, is a ground circuit wire, or should be connected to a ground. The battery Negative(-) cable goes to an engine mounting bolt, and that's sground wire too.

If the wire in question is coming off the battery Negative(-) terminal, it's a place for another circuit to connect for a ground. Do you have a wiring diagram? If so, it will make troubleshooting much easier.

ok so why am i getting no spark then? fuse doesnt blow anymore. I checked all wires with meter and its all good. How do you check coil with meter?
