Ok, this may help you see it better...

This is a KZ900 handle bar right hand control configuration @ minimum wiring.
1973-1980 KZ z1, 900 & 1000's pretty much the same... ;)

* 4-6 AWG conductor from starter relay to battery terminal.
* Starter relay to under engine case to starter.
Starter is grounded to engine frame so insure engine case is ideally grounded!
* Starter relay Black/yellow conductor to ground (frame/engine case or directly to battery (-))
* Black conductor goes to starter switch RH control)
* Battery voltage to the starter switch via the Kill switch...
* Ignition switch battery voltage to kill switch then onto kill switch and ignition coils.

Thats almost the same as the diagram in the old clymer I have.
I have bypassed the right hand controls. I just kick start it.
I Replaced the stator and that solved the problem.
