Hi all, can some one please help, I have a z1000 z1r engined chop, had her for about 10 years now, I still have points ignition and would like to change to electronic I couldn't afford a dyna so have bought a second hand Kawasaki st pickups on a back plate and an igniter, do I need a new advance/retard rotor or will it work with the points one i'v got, I also need some help with the wiring, I'm pretty good mechanically but get a bit lost with electrics haha, thanks in hope of help Andy

the mechanical advance unit that you have now should work,
as long as it is lubed and functioning.
i have been planning to utilize this wiring diagram for a bare bones z1r myself.

That's perfect thank you lots, with the advance/retard do I need anything like a rotor arm or something or will the pickups be able to to use the cam the points use at the mo? Again thanks for wiring

I'm going to be really surprised if your points timing advancer works with the Kawasaki electronic ignition. Take a look at the kawasaki.com parts diagrams and compare the two.

Just looked at parts diagrams on Kawasaki.com and they look very similar but have different parts number, don't suppose anyone has a Kawasaki electronic ignition rotor I could have cheap? Or know where I can get hold of one?

Couple on ebay right now, cheap. There is also a used Dyna you might want to check out.
