DeOxit wire/contact cleaner

Anyone have any experience with DeOxit? Good or bad?
Want to clean up all my old wiring, leads, contacts, connectors and heard somewhere that this stuff was "the shit" . Any truth? Or is there something better or just as good.( DeOxit is hard to find and not cheap.)

Close to the top of this page, you will see "FORUM SEARCH" type in Deoxit, and look for any posts by MFolks. He really believes in it, and thanks to him, many of us now know about it. Thanks MFolks. :)

Go to their website and do some reading: www.deoxit.com I've used this for many years. I use it on cordless phone charging cradles,my motorcycle, car & any plug in cables for my entertainment center.

It's pricey, but good stuff. Radio Shack stores sell it and most electronic supply stores too.

Ok I'm sold on the stuff, thanks MFOLKS.

One question though, they sadly don't carry it up here in Calgary , Alberta.
I see it is everywhere in USA including Radio Shacks and looking at the website there are quite a few choices of DeOxit to choose from. Which do you use/recommend? The DeOxit "D" ?
I am going to put my US connections to work to get me a can or two.
Shippers won't send cans of anything across the border.

cheers,

steve

I have several cans of the original "D5" formula, I'd imagine the "D" is an improvement(possibly to meet the EPA regulations). They have really cracked down on MEK, paint thinner and other chemicals. Some states cannot sell rubbing Alcohol higher in strength than 70%.

Around here the Radio Shacks only carry the small cans.
I found the 5 oz can of D-5 at Fry's electronics and will probably use most of it doing all the connectors on my bike.
When you put this much effort into going over everything whats a few bucks more for some piece of mind

I spent a weekend going through every electrical connection and switch on the bike with a little scotchbrite pad and DeOxit - what a difference! Everything was brighter, gauge backlights, indicator lights, turn signals, I was getting a nicer spark, it fired up quicker, etc. Well worth my time. WELL worth it!

See how a little time spent, produces great results! These old bikes need a TLC now and then for continued use. I've been touting the good things about De-Oxit for years.

I just bought a 5 oz. can of D5 from McMaster-Carr. part # 8381T11. $14.88
plus scary fast shipping. About 1/5 the price of the tiny cans from Radio Shack.
