Spark Troubles

I am restoring a 78 kz650 for my brother in-law and i dont have spark coming out of one of the coils. there are dyna coils on there and im suspicious of this porcelain break in the wiring. i dont see it on the wiring diagrams so i was wondering if this is a stock part. i check the resistance on the coil and is seems fine. 3 ohm on one end and 26k on the other. If anyone has advice thank you i apreciate it.

This is called a "Ballast Resistor", it's designed to lower the voltage to prevent burn out. You can safetly bypass this resistor by connecting the two wires together.

It looks like the previous owner(s) upgraded the ignition coils without removing the resistor.

If you are running points, keep the ballast resistor to prevent eh points from wearing too quickly.

If the bike has a Dyna S ignition, you won't need the ballast resistor.
