Turn signals and Hazards was created by motorscot
Couple of questions
1. Do the front turn signals have to be connected for all to work, or will the rears still work if the fronts are removed?
2. How do I check to make sure the relays are correctly plugged in? I made the mistake of pulling the wires before marking the relays
3. Are the turn signal relays interchangable with the hazard relays?
Currently, nothing works. The hazards have worked once that I remember. The turn signals used to, but now they don't. Might be a wiring issue (something pulled loose/emergency lights added to existing hot wires).
The front signals were very weak when they worked, the rears seemed fine. One side seemed to be stronger than the other as well.
Any thoughts or suggestions??

This covers the hazard and turn signal ciecuits. They use seperate silver cans(thermal relays).

I'd say yes, that both front and rear sirnals have to be connected for the system to work, but the newer electronic flashers may compensate for only having one set of lights in the circuit instead of two sets.

Also open up both left and right handlebar switch pods as some of the older bikes are experiancing crumbled/failing soldered connections.
If you need soldering information, I've got that too, just ask..

+1 It's because the stock flasher is a metal strip that needs the current of both bulbs to make it hot enough to bend. An electronic flasher doesn't care about current load.MFolks wrote: I'd say yes, that both front and rear sirnals have to be connected for the system to work, but the newer electronic flashers may compensate for only having one set of lights in the circuit instead of two sets.

Thanks guys. I will try and get some work done this weekend and report back. I don't really want to put the front lights back on, but I could probably fab up some aftermarket sportbike flushmounts

FWIW I have LED flashers on my '83 KZ750. I found a replacement flasher relay at Advance Auto for $4 and it runs them. It'll even run just the rears or just the fronts. It's the same size can & connectors as the stock can.

Cool, thanks. They started working again. Don't know why. I would like to have fronts as well. So, I will be picking up a set of low profile flush mounts before the holidays and will be switching all lights to LED
