Help!!!!! frusteated beyond belief

I have an 1981 KZ1000 K1 LTD; about 2 months ago the ignition switch fell apart. The switch is no longer available. I carefully took switch apart; reassembled it and crazy glued the tin covering over the electrical part of the switch. It worked great for about 2 months. Today go out to start the bike turn the key; dash lights come on. I hit the start button; it turns over about a half a turn and everything goes dead. No dash lights nothing. Turn the key off and on a couple of times; no longer any dash lights nothing. I checked the fuses with an ohm meter; there all good. I put the trickle charger back on the battery; but it went back to float. Battery fine? If I turn the key on with charger hooked up the charge light will blink. If I turn the switch back off; the charge light stops blinking, stays on steady for about 30 sec. and goes back to float. Any thoughts or advice? If the ignition switch has gone again. I don't want to repair it again. I heard there are 2 companies in california that still make after-market switches. Anybody no who they are? Any help would really be appreciated this is very frustrating.

1. I would try a known good battery before assuming it's the switch, or bring it to Autozone and have them test it.

2. Are you referring to the key switch, or the right-hand switch pod?

The Emgo from Z1 Ent. is only $15 and it's great. Comes with 2 keys and a new plastic ring that always looks nasty on older bikes.

I searched for years trying to find a NOS one and they were stoopid money. The Emgo is a fine product and if you insist on a genuine Kawi key, buy a couple and get them cut to fit the new swtich.
