Wire Loom Question

This braided wire loom is wrapped around the stator wires (please see attached photo). It runs under the sprocket cover - alongside the transmission cover (tucked in/around the chain guard).

The question is: Does this stuff protect against heat? Or is it just a better layer of protection? Or both? And if it needs to protect against heat, any ideas how much?

The wires were previously cut and electrical-taped together. So I'd like to redo that with solder and heat shrink. And then replace the braided wire loom since it was also cut (and worn through in other spots).

Anything that keeps the wires from coming in contact with hot engine surfaces will protect them a little better. It's hard to say how much heat that particular loom will resist without having the packaging it came in, but in my opinion, the braided stuff does a MUCH better job than the cheap plastic crap you can pick up at walmart, autozone, etc, etc.

EDIT: The leather wraps are decent too, but can be a little tedious to use. These seem harder and harder to find in my local stores, but is WAY better than that cheapo plastic stuff. Can you tell I don't really like the cheapo plastic stuff yet? LOL! :silly:

Read this thread about finding a "J" engine, I've got information toward the bottom of the thread with U-tube videos about heatshrink splices and links:
