Ok, according to the wiring diagram (two pics below), in #1, where is the rectifier? In #2 where is the plug connector relay terminal thingy in the diagram? Also, I don't have the 5 pin connector that is shown in the diagram. Do I need it? I wasn't able to get the wires out of the plug connectors. Does anyone know a trick or should I just cut them off and insert them into a new plug?

HEY, PAY ATTENTION! :pinch: No, don't just cut the wires! Instead, read the reply I sent 11 postings before this one (see above postings). It tells you how to deal with wires stuck in the connectors. Ed

I saw what you had said but I was trying not to damage the plastic connector 'case' because I checked the websites and they don't show the same connectors I have. See the 'tan' one in the pics.

I have a 'regulator' under my battery box. The picture is of a piece that was on the frame near the gas tank. You call this a 'rectifier'. Now when I looked up 'rectifier' it was refered to as a 'Regulator Rectifier'. As per the diagram, it shows a 'regulator' separate from the 'rectifier'. My question: Are they the same thing and if I have a 'voltage regulator' under the battery unit, do I still need the 'rectifier' shown in the picture? If they are indeed separate units, then do I go ahead and put the 'rectifier' piece back on the frame? thanx.........

You need both parts. Older bikes, like yours, have a separate regulator and rectifier, while newer bikes have them as one part. You may be able to replace the two with a newer part, with some changes in your wiring harness, but I am not sure.

The wiring diagram (see earlier post) shows the two separate parts, which are a separate rectifier and a separate regulator.

A combination rectifier/regulator is available which replaces both parts with a single unit that mounts under the battery box where the stock regulator mounts.

For more info about the combo unit,
click > www.z1enterprises.com/Rectifier--Regulat...on-Unit--Z1-261.aspx

The charging system (alternator; rectifier; regulator) exists to keep the battery charged. With a good fully charged battery, the bike should start and run just fine until the battery runs down, and without any charging system components whatever.

Good Fortune! :)
