Turn Signals will not blink of flash.
08 Aug 2011 15:18
Hi,
I have a 1979 Kz650 B3 Model. I am having trouble with both of the front and rear (right and left) turn signals, when I select either of them they will turn on but will not flash or blink. I am not an electrician but all the wires seem to be connected right. Is there any easy fix for this? If not can this can wait until, I have some money saved up to get the my bike serviced? Thanks.

Color Codes On Most Kawasaki’s (written for 1980’s bikes)
HEADLIGHT
RED with BLACK stripe, High Beam.
RED with YELLOW stripe, Low Beam.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.
BRAKE/TAIL LIGHT Can be an # 1157 dual filament bulb
RED, Running or Tail Light.
BLUE,(sometimes with a Red stripe) Brake Light Circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.
LEFT FRONT TURN SIGNAL Can be an #1157 dual filament bulb
GREEN, Left front turn signal circuit.
BLUE, Left front running light circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.
RIGHT FRONT TURN SIGNAL Can be an # 1157 dual filament bulb
GREY, Right front turn signal circuit.
BLUE, Right front running light circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.
LEFT REAR TURN SIGNAL Can be an #1156 single filament bulb
GREEN, Left rear turn signal circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.
RIGHT REAR TURN SIGNAL Can be an #1156 single filament bulb
GREY, Right rear turn signal circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.
Check the wiring for signs of corrosion/broken wires. Checked to see if the 4 way flashers work? It's seperate flasher can usually next to the one for the turn signals.
I'd replace all the turn signal bulbs in the front and rear(#1157 for the front,#1156 for the rear)and a new #1157 for the tail/brake light in the rear.
Turn signal flasher cans are cheap, just bring your old one to the nearest auto parts store for a replacement. Some are two prong, others are three prong.

easy trick...do they flash with the emergency flasher switch on? If so, look for identical flasher relays under the seat and next to the selenoid near the battery. Swap em. If the signals work now, order a new relay from ebay. Dealer is like 78 bucks and I told them to get stuffed.

Blinkers come in two versions:
(1) thermal;
(2) electronic.
The reported issue is often resolved with a new "electronic" blinker from the local auto supply store.

I Visited my local auto parts store today (o'rilley) and picked up "littelfuse flash 536/552". After I installed it the turn signals would take a few seconds to start flashing after selected but now they are not flashing at all. Checked the fuse box and all 3 fuses seem to be working. Did I get the wrong part or can this be fixed? This is driving me nuts. If you know how to fix this please let me know. Thanks.

If somebody changed to LED bulbs, they won't work with thermal flasher units. You need a solid state flasher.

Try checking inside the headlight housing for a loose ground connection where the headlight mounts.
