Yeah, I've always been puzzled by that. I wish I could get some test time on a 1300 to see what's happening with the dwell... just for my own curiosity.
What is the redline on one of those?
It would be nice to be able to get the 1300 to be able to run the same parts as the i-4's.

Are you saying that I cant run green 3 ohm dyna's with my stock ignition?

The external resistor takes a lot of the heat out of the coils and improves their lifetime. It also reduces the voltage across the coil which decreases spark energy. No free lunch in electronics.....Patton wrote: Z1E listing for Dyna green 3 ohm coil says,
...For some Kawasaki bikes with a resistor in the circuit (KZ1000 79 & 80), the 3 ohm coil is the best choice - just remove the ballast resistor from the circuit....
Wonder why Kawasaki didn't simply fit the higher resistance coils in the first place instead of using lower resistance coils that required a resistor?

You need to run whatever coil impedance came stock which the igniter is designed to work with.0Z.Z1R Mk2 wrote: So,in conclusion...

Never mind, will flog these off and get the 2.2 ohm coils instead.

I think Otakar and I would agree that if you already have the green coils, you should try them.
We are only saying that the gray coils may be better suited, but there is also a very good chance the green coils will work fine, and since you already have them...
I run 3 ohm Accel coils with the ignition designed for 2.3 ohm coils. It works fine, and I can't tell a difference between them and the factory coils when running normally. However, the only time I've had any trouble was when the plug gap was openened up to double the normal gap. Then the spark would fail to arc when the throttle was wide open. I put in new plugs with normal gap and the bike ran fine again.
As a side note, I can confirm for Otto, from the above, that the plugs being opened up to a much larger gap did make the bike seem more lively. (The tradeoff being that it stresses out the coil and igniter.)
So there is a good chance that you can run the green coils and never miss anything, unless you are doing other things to get more power (larger plug gap or higher compression or really high RPMs).
