Why? How do you know it's bad?

To replace it, you need coil, wires, igniter, pickup, rotor/advancer.
But I doubt all of the above are bad, and the factory ignition is pretty good, compared to the Boyers or Dyna S.

You can even make a replacement igniter for about $25 if you stick with the factory ignition.

im going to replace all but the coil because i know my cables are bad so if im going to replace a part might as well update the 30yo system

Ok, but just so you know, the coil is really the only part that needs to be replaced after 30 years. The rest of system has very few failures. Not that they don't go bad, but the coil is far far more likely to be bad than the rest of the system.

Definitely don't toss it. Someone somewhere will want it to upgrade their 400 or 750 twin.
