Stock coils to dynas 2.2 - Change gap??

1980 750-4. Going from stock coils to a brand spankin new set of dyna 2.2's. Also got the 7mm copper core wire set (no resistor).

Should I change my plug gap from the stock setting of .7-.8 mm?

In the process of installing them as we speak. Yep, I got an old PC installed in the garage so this site is only an arms reach away!

You don't have to but I run between .040-.060

what does changing it a wider gap get me?

I didn't make it to the coils tonight. When I ordered my coils I got a cam cover gasket and tach seal. Well, lets just say the gasket was so crispy that I actually drew blood as it plunged beneath my fingernail. So, I had to take the cams out to get all the gasket out and the bits that broke off. Anyway, I'll tackle the coils tomorrow afternoon.

Don't loose the supplied ignition coil screws if possible. If you do misplace them, 10-32 X 5/16" screws will work. anything longer will bottom out before getting tight.

You'll need to put ring terminals on the primary(small wires) side of the new coils as the Kawasaki ones had 1/4" push on terminals.

Larger gap gives you better efficiency and a bit more power.

Not just is it OK it is BETTER. Go with .045" gap and get some Denso or ACCEL Plugs if you cant get the Denso Stay away from any of these newfangled exotic metal plugs. They work well on cars but are very short lived on our bikes. The Denso plug would be a W24ES-U or ACCEL #142 you can get more info here on this thread.

Can do. I got some NGK's right now, but I got about 4k on them. I was surprised when I saw the spark from my new coils. Now I know what you guys all meant by fig, fat blue spark! The old coils looked more like a static electricity shock compared to these.

You will notice a difference in acceleration, fuel efficiency and top end.

I found the accel plugs on summit. Do you know of any chain stores that would carry the densos? I just hate paying shipping and waiting...

From the looks of your link you sent me, you prefer the accel plugs anyway, correct?

Also, would there be really any noticeable benefit to getting the accell plugs for my 550, which has stock coils and ignition?

I am not aware of any Big Box stores that carry the ACCEL plugs. The denso plugs have been discontinued some years ago under that brand and are IDENTICAL to the ACCEL plugs. I bought a large quantity some years ago of the Denso plugs while they were still available. Today you have to look for them on the web to find them with a lot of difficulty. This is why I found the ACCEL plugs. If you look at the metal stampings between the two plugs, They are the same.
