Ok I spent 10yrs looking for my 77kz650 have spent a ton of time fixing it up have rode only 4 miles and carbs started spilling fuel fixed that and now hit the start button and all I get is a click in my starter relay. Were do I go from here before I spend the money on new relay and coils

Check the connections and then condition of your battery. What is the volotage? If it is down I'd say check your reg/rec. Might not be charging. As for that carb thing make sure you have a inline filter.
Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

Your bike should kickstart easily. If you start it that way you can see how it runs and test the charging system. The starter problem you describe may simply be a bad starter or starter clutch. If so, that should not impact the way the bike runs, so you should be able to ride until you sort out the starter problem. Ed

There are lots of differences betrween the 77 and 80 KZ650 including charging system and fuel system. When you start the bike cold be sure to give it full choke and do not touch the throttle, otherwise you'll have a heart attack before it starts  Assuming the carbs are clean, which you should be able to tell by how well it idles and runs once started, I would suggest you check and replace the points if that hasn't been done recently. Pitted or mis-adjusted points can make starting difficult. There is no actual adjustment to cam timing other than adjusting the cam chain tensioner. Ed

 Perhaps wires from points/pickups to coils are reversed.

When setting ignition timing, use only the F mark, and forget the T mark.

Good Fortune! :)

If you can, post a picture of the left side of your engine showing the dynamo cover and we can tell you for sure if it's a '77. Take a look at the pics below; notice the '77 dynamo cover has 3 screws near the word Kawasaki. Later models did not have these because their dynamos were very different. Ed
