Just to clarify; in an earlier post you stated you had points. I assume that is not actually the case as you are trying to locate an inexpensive source for a pulsing coil. So is the part you're looking for the one circled in the diagram below (part number 59026-1058)?

That system is harder to come by.
You can, however, downgrade to either of the older ignitions.
The older kz 750 ignition will have the same coils (2.2 to 2.6 ohms), but will use a cheaper igniter box (which you can easily make) and will use the more-plentiful older style, steel pickup plate. You will also have to use a mechanical advancer from a 650 or 750-four.
You can use the pickups from 550's, 650's, and 750-four's.
Advancers from those bikes may fit, but the advancer curve might be better if the advancer is from a 750-four.
And then you can probably use any points setup from a 650, but those require higher-ohm coils (about 4 ohms).

If he needs an igniter there are a few used ones on eBay, but they ain't cheap -

Lack of spark at plugs could be caused by lots of things besides a defective pulsing coil.

So you are saying you have the original electronic ignition from that bike, and not the points you originally said you had, or did you find the parts and re-install them and remove the points?
Second, how exactly are you checking for spark? If you have the sparkplugs all disconnected, then you should ground one sparkplug wire on the coil you are testing in order to check the other plug wire for spark.
Also, just so you know, the coil on the right should go to spark plugs 1 and 4, they are the outer plugs. The left coil should go to spark plugs 2 and 3, they are the inner plugs.
