bullet to the head

well i gave my bike power and what i thought was the right wiring. the guy who had the bike labeled half the wires. i had no lights or anything when i pushed the start button. now i have to go through all the wiring on the bike.

Does bike have a working kick starter?

breath...it will all work out...even running perfect these 35 yr old kawasakis can do little tricks and quirks that just take time to learn....somthing small can have me thinking my bike blew up more than once...you have been staying at it....you have have been asking the right questions and getting feedback...you have a bit of a project ahead and your this far in...it will work out.....Craig...

YES THE KICK START WORKS!!! all the lights and crap i could care less about. i just need to know if the motor runs to see if its worth my time and $ to fix up. is there a basic diagram to just get the motor going?

For engine to run, need good fully charged battery and batt+ voltage to both coil primaries (usually furnished with ignition switch ON).

If necessary, may circumvent otherwise defective wiring by connecting a hot wire from batt+ terminal to coil primaries. (Disconnect while engine isn't running).

Assure good ground connection where battery negative cable attaches to rear of engine. And that both battery terminal connections are clean and snug.

Then use kick starter. Full choke, and NO throttle.

Would also remove plugs and visually observe spark while performing otherwise normal cranking procedure. Look for fat blue spark. Not thin orange spark.

With batt+ to coil primaries, and no spark at plug tips, suspect issues with coil or between coil and plug tips.

turn on the key...take a spare plug or pull a plug ..have a friend(not one you like)carefully hold the or rest the rubber boot agianst a head nut and kcik the bike over in a dark garage....

if it has spark....check if it is getting gas..and then post the progress....if it does not have spark...there is a check from the charged battery through the fuse box and through the ignition key and handle bar contolrs where they meet in the headlight bucket...there is a white wire under the side covers at the junction box...check that it is wiggled togehter good...check the fuses....

it matters...but not in this exact situation...


not really the bike if juiced up at the battery will kick over and show spark......of that is if it is a good spark plug...little stuff as you go in the beginning is frustrating becuase it comes at you all at once....some bikes have a wire to the kicktsand and to the clutch...and wont spark with the stand down or clutch out...mostly newer models ,but,some owners(the kind who install boots upside down ) will mix and match parts at will....


i bet you just got a wire not connected on the controls or a ground wire to the motor or a wire in the head light or sidecover not connected....

allright. thanks for the help guys. its time to get down to the nitty gritty. i was praying i wouldnt have to mess with the wires, but such is life....Joe
