I have set timing somewhat close using a ohm meter, separately on each set of points, my ? is ...with the timing light do you time off the 1 &4 cylinders only or do you do 2&3 as well separately ???

thanx

Set the timing for 1-4 first by lining up the F mark with the case mark, then do the 2-3 side the same, seperately.

If your static timing is dead on chances are the light will be to. At least in my expierence any ways. Sounds like you are close to getting her going.

oh she's running and not too bad, jus dialing it in, thanx for the help, the factory manual is a little fuzzy on the timing IMO and I'm used to timing an ironhead anyway. Me thinks I need to file my point as well.

Each set of points is separately adjusted for gap.

Each set of points is separately adjusted for timing.

Set gaps first, before setting timing.

Good Fortune! :)

When contacts need cleaning, a strip of fine sandpaper, folded over to expose sand on both sides, is handy to pull through the contacts on closed points.

If desired, may use your finger to add a little pressure toward holding the contacts more firmly together while pulling the sandpaper through.

May work as well or better than a point file.

Good Fortune! :)

Cleaning the contact interface by filing or sand papering should help remove any pitting and also improve the contact area, which should be flat to flat as much as possible.

I have used match books in a pinch on the side of the road before.

If the points will not line up I would replace them. But if they are dirty and square up, file em a little with Pattons method
