Check the coils with ignition on: are they recieving battery voltage?

Plugs and wires new?

Points clean/good, and gap/dwell , timing set correctly?

If no voltage at the ignition coils, check at the run/stop switch and start switch on the right handlebar switch pod.

If still nothing, open up the headlight housing and check for corrosion in the connectors or broken wiring.

Fuses look good? tight in their clips? no corrosion?
Battery connections clean and tight?

"I have a Dyna III and new coils, "....
Assumption is pre Dyna, the engine ran correct?

Is switched +12Vdc getting to the ignition plate and through to the coils?

Static alignments performed on the Dyna?

Engine case proper grounded battery (-)?

As already mentioned, Dyna wired correctly?

Time to get out the volt meter....

Another thing, coil mounting... Are you sure you don't have the +12Vdc grounded/partially grounded to the frame?

Maybe these will help out....

Ok update, I am reading 14.02 voltes at the coils. Could it be a bad Dyna III?

Possibly...
Did you accomplish the static test? If it lights up pending crank rotation then most likely not the Dyna.

Engine frame ideally grounded?

Hey Old Man Rock,

First let me say thanks for all your help.

I checked the grounds and they are good. Let me tell you what happened, I was leaving for work one morning and she just died on me. I have all light working, 14.35 volts at the coils. 3.001 ohm of resistance at the coils. Did test from docs, still no spark!!!! Should I get a Dyan S or a Dyna 4?

Dyna III is powered by splicing into a bike's harness wire providing switched battery voltage.

Such splice may have failed, whereby the Dyna III won't function.

Good Fortune! :)
