New coil recommdations?

So, I have my 1980 750 LTD with the original coils and plug caps (I replaced wires with new copper core). The one coil has a hairline crack in the plastic case which I sealed up. I know this is going to fail on me at some point, so I was looking at new coils from Z1 and they have several varieties. Any recommendations on which ones to get? I am not sure what the resistance of my stockers are, but I would just like to replace the coils and maybe the caps/wires, and then if I do, should I get resistor caps or suppression wires????

BTW, it has stock electronic ignition.

For stronger spark, I'd suggest copper sparkplug wires and no resistive sparkplug caps. My understanding is the resistive wires and caps along with resistive sparkplugs lower the EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) the snap and pop heard on radios & TV's.

3 ohm coils should work well,as you mentioned,Z1 sells coils, Dyna and Accel also sell 3 ohm coils.

There are two good coil brands for our bikes. Dyna and ACCEL. I like the ACCEL 3 Ohm universal coils for that application.

There is a possibility though that you have a 2.2 Ohm system in that case you will require the Dyna Gray coils. If you post a picture of the IC box I can tell you which system you have.

Looking at the picture on Kawasaki.com, it looks like you will need the 3 Ohm coils.

Any chance that my 82 550 LTD would have the same coils? I could take them for the rest of the riding season because it is currently laid up with a bad attitude...

I know for a fact that the 550 has 2.2 Ohm coils. For that you will require the Dyna Gray coils.

I have these same coils on my 198* Gpz1150 with the OE Kawasaki ignition.

So, I'll just hope my 750 has 2.2 coils, then that will get me by this riding season and will give the pocketbook a break. Been dealing out a good amount of cash lately for the bike...but all needed things. Tires, clutch springs, parts carbs, oil, oil filter, battery, new title and license, maybe front bearing, etc.

NO the 750 uses 3 Ohm coils like the ones I gave you the link to from ACCEL or Dyna Green coils.

The accel coils come with cables for that price the Dyna will not. If you run 2.2 ohm coils on a 3 Ohm system, you will fry the coils or the module or both. If you run 3 Ohm coils on a 2.2 ohm system it will work but will just have a smaller spark. But because these coils have a higher output voltage than the stock coils, you will probably have a bigger spark than stock anyway. If you have to buy just one set of coils than get the 3 Ohm. It will be the required coils for the 750 and will also work on the 550.

"My Bad" we were still going off that initial presumption. So I did the research and you were right again. They are BOTH 2.2 Ohm systems. So what you will require for BOTH bikes are the Dyna 2.2 Ohm coils.

So, I could take the coil from my 550 in a pinch? Kawasaki.com does not list them as interchangeable.
