Mirrors? was created by Topper
I recently purchased a 1988 KZ305 LTD. It didn't have any mirrors on it and I bought a set of "universal" mirrors that look similar to what I've seen on this bike.

The mirrors fit just fine, but no matter what I do I can't adjust them to a point where I can actually see anything in them.

This KZ305 has the original swept back handle bars on it. I'm wondering if that's part of the problem as it puts the mirrors at a funky angle.

Has anyone else had this problem? Do I need to get a particular set of mirrors to ensure they'll actually work?

Permanent and perpetual noob.

You can use washers to get a better seat angle on the bar.
Start with 1 washer and then grind/double as necessary.

You dont need special mirrors, just a little mounting trickery.

You should be able to obtain a fairly 360 degree field of vision with properly mounted mirrors, and the horizon should be right across the middle of the mirror.

and a view of the back.

The longest part of the stem is about six inches long. No matter how I try to adjust these I can't see anything useful in the mirrors.

Do I need a different style mirror for this bike?

I just went through this on my KZ where I either had tuck in my arm and shift amy body slightly to see or rotate my elbow up to see under the armpit/hip... Looked like a freaking chicken going down the road.... :S

There was numerous things I didn't care for about in my original mirror selection, so went a different route...

Not sure I like this style mirror (theme, prefer 3" rounds I think) but had these as spares and it works a hell of a lot better during a ride... Clear and un-obstructed views....

Under bar Mirrors!!!!
As can be reviewed in the lower image, plenty of clearance to tank....

Just a thought...

For this application the mount points were not at an 90* angle which on these mirrors they are. You will have to "twist" the long leg of the rod. You can see the angle in this picture.

Hopefully the mirror uses convex glass. (Objects are closer than they appear). If not, no need to bother with them as they are worthless. I can't believe how many aftermarket mirrors are not convex! Garbage.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
