dont think this will work on my bike, the mount points are 4" apart... not 3.5"

Was continuity measured between ends of the spark plug wires with the caps off?
Should be very high ohms, such as 18K or maybe higher (guessing).
If no continuity, perhaps one of the caps is defective (if measuring between the caps attached to the plugs).
It's sometimes possible to snip a short section from the plug wire ends to provide better connections with the caps (in case the wire-cap lacks continuity).
