Need help to ID what I have was created by Cigarette38
I have posted in a couple of sections about issues I am having with this project bike I bought. I am comming to believe that this bike was put together from who know's what. Any way it should still run. I am having doubts about diognosing the problems because nothing makes sence as to what should be there according to any schematic i look at.

If you want to read further about the problem

kzrider.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&...ew&catid=3&id=366237

What I would like is if the forum could help ID what I have as far as electrical ignition components because I do not believe they belong to this exact model.

The bike appers to be a 79' LTD 1000 B3 according to the vin. Has manufacure date of 03/79.

Ignitor is a fuji type 21119-1041

coils are Tec ZC0006-TR12V

Did not get a number fron the P/U coils

Ballast resistor no numbers and looks nothing like what I have seen as a replacement nor is it wired as any schematic so please refer to the photo and tell me if indeed this is or is not a ballast resistor.

Please lets start with this.

Ballast? This is mounted to the valve cover in a rubber boot and tang. Not on the batt box as shown.

Ballast?

Nope, that's your 'brake light failure switch', it's a small circuit that's supposed to turn on a warning light in your gauges if your stop light bulb blows, nothing to do with ignition.

Pardon me if you already know, but it should sit next to your starter relay under the left side cover, at least it does on the 650s.

Ok So that means there is no ballast resistor on the bike. Nor do I see any provisions for one.

The igniter you have was used on 1981 and later KZ1000 and KZ1100 so if you do in fact have a 1979 engine a later system has been fitted which would be rare to see.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

If I recall correctly the Tec ZC0006-TR12V are low-ohm coils meant for electronic ignition, so they should be the right ones for your setup. They should measure 1.8 - some 2.8 Ohms on the primary side. And no, there shouldn't be a ballast resistor.

I am assuming due to the electronic ignition I have a MKII motor. Is there any way to tell what year motor I actually have?

There should be a motor number stamped into the right side of the top case right above the clutch cover - post the number here or go to Zedder.com to check (scroll down to find 1000 cc).

Engine number is KZT00AE087955 looks like it's the correct motor for the chassis. Would like to know if this is the large or small pin motor "crankshaft".
